Charles Schmerler is a Senior Managing Director and Head of Litigation Finance at Pretium, where he is responsible for building and managing the Firm’s litigation finance practice. Prior to joining the Firm in 2021, Charles was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Yorkside Capital. Prior to Yorkside Capital, he was a partner at The Global Law Firm Norton Rose Fulbright, where he served as lead counsel for financial institutions and corporate clients in a broad variety of litigation, arbitration and transactional matters in jurisdictions throughout the world. Charles has been deeply involved in litigation finance for well over a decade and is a recognized expert in the field. He is ranked annually by Lawdragon as one of the 100 global leaders in litigation finance and frequently speaks and comments on developing issues in the industry. Charles has also served as Chair of the Committee on International Litigation of the American Bar Association Section of International Law and is a Fellow of the American Bar Association. He is the author of a treatise on international insolvency and restructuring law. He received a Bachelor's in History from Yale University and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
