Professor Raj Chetty at the 2025 Pretium Investor Symposium—Investing in Economic Opportunity
At the 2025 Pretium Investor Symposium, we welcomed Raj Chetty, Professor of Economics at Harvard University and Director of Opportunity Insights, whose research shows that children with exposure to “higher-opportunity” communities—with lower poverty rates, stronger family stability, higher-quality schools, and greater social capital— have higher earning potential than peers in lower-opportunity areas.
Pretium applies Professor Chetty’s Opportunity Atlas and related research to guide rental housing investments in communities that foster long-term resident well-being and stability, evaluating factors like crime, environmental risk, and proximity to employment hubs. Nearly 80% of our 88,000+ single-family rental homes are located in what we consider higher-opportunity neighborhoods and 97% of those homes have rents that are affordable to middle-income households.
